One
of my mentors said in one of his meetings and I quote “there are some things
are know now that I can’t teach you now else you’ll stone me”. Then I began to
wonder what those things could be that could lead to his audience to stone him.
Just as I began to dig deeper into scriptures that those things could only be
core truths. Jesus was crucified for telling the truth; Apostle Paul was stoned
at least three times in fact, he was thought to have died during one of the
events. Another person who was stoned for saying the truth was Apostle Stephen.
Truths
are open doors to freedom; John 8:32 reveals that truth sets the captives free
and that is why every open door is opposed by adversaries as written in 2 Cor
16:9 but the good news is that we are more than conquerors because Jesus has
overcome the world in our stead giving us the trophy. We can therefore conclude
that nothing sets free like the truth also, there is nothing further than the
truth.
Hence,
Christians are called to run to obtain an incorruptible crown. This race is not
a sprint, but it is still a marathon one. May we run so well to obtain. 1Cor
9:24-27 reads thus;
“Know
ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So
run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is
temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we
an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as
one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection:
lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a
castaway”
The
believer’s faith is a race that is engaged correctly the moment he/she
surrenders to Jesus Christ. This is to say that every living being is engaged
in one race or the other gunning for different prizes. You are therefore either
running as believer or unbeliever. Hence, the rules guiding them differ one way
or the other unfortunately, the rules that apply to one doesn’t apply to the
other.
Now
for the sake of this subject we have our focus on the believer’s race and their
prize. From our opening text you will discover that the prize for the believer
is an incorruptible crown that directly gives us an idea of what the prize for
the unbeliever who are consciously or unconsciously engaged in a race too will
be; it could only be a corruptible crown.
Conclusively
just to water your appetite; one truth I am privy to by the help of the Holy
Spirit is in 1 Peter 2:23 which read thus;
“Being
born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God,
which liveth and abideth for ever”
