THE GOOD SHEPHERD

“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” John 10:11

Blessed be God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ; our creator in whom we move, live and have our being. Just as I went about my daily chore yesterday also brooding over what menu to serve you this morning, I felt a nudge in my spirit by the Holy Spirit to share something about “The Good Shepherd”; our Lord Jesus.

I hear one of my Pastors say times and again that this dispensation of grace is more demanding than the dispensation of the law to which I agree. However, more often in the body of Christ today is God presented as a fearful or even fiery God which is also true but He is more of a loving and caring father.

Jesus (God) described Himself as “the good shepherd” and not just “a good shepherd”. Did you notice that in our opening text? Good! He is the good shepherd going by just one quality amongst many others; He laid down His life for us to be saved. Scripture goes on to describe this single act as the limit of love gone by no man other than Him, John 15:13.

I also saw in scripture how Apostle John the beloved was said to have kept his head laid on the bosom of Jesus when they sat down to feast which gave him more insight than others into the revelation of Christ. Apostle Peter despite his closeness to Christ needed Apostle John to access certain information in Christ, John 13:23-26. God is not out to scare us but draw us to Himself and love is the only medium through which that can be achieved,     John 3:16.

The message I am passing across to you is this; that you need to see God as more of a loving father than a scary one; it will take one like our God to receive with gladness people like the prodigal son, Luke 15:20. 1Samuel 17:34-36 sheds more light into the core qualities of the good Shepherd; he puts His life on the line; see Psalm 24 for more detail.

Conclusively, we are admonished and called into a fellowship with God (The Good Shepherd); a communion and not a distant relationship, 1Cor 1:9;

“God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord”

 Develop a romantic/love relationship with the word of God, spend time with it. Ruminate over it again and again through your day; keep your head on His bosom because He enjoys it and you will never run out of revelation, the types that will rescue you from the islands of Patmos of your time and life and open great doors of opportunities unto you. Shalom!
