DAMARIS

The rate at which people even believers respond to the things of God today is so alarming. One will wonder if they really know Him as He is. Many are quick to name their children after different characters in the Bible based on the exploits of such characters but very few act accordingly. You want your son to answer Isaac but you are not willing to be an Abraham whether directly or indirectly. You name your son Samuel without being a Hannah. We can go on and so forth but just a quick and short message to prick your heart and awaken dull hearts.

Coincidentally my fiancee answer to the same name as is our case study and I must say with all sense of humility here that she lives her name. Acts 17:32-34 reads;

“And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter. So Paul departed from among them. Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them”

While others wouldn’t believe what was being told them Damaris and some others believed. One thing that separated them from the crowd was the cleaving spirit they carried. They wouldn’t just let go of the truth! Scripture says they clave unto Apostle Paul.

How would you describe yourself as a follower of Christ? Are you clave to Him or lose? Only those who cleave to Him win the race to eternity. Damaris is an inspiration going by her way of life.

Conclusively, you can name your child or children after any of those wonderful characters but be sure to live both the name you answer personally and as those who gave those names. This is where studying the bible by character comes in, take on a particular character and study his/her life through scriptures, that will help you to harness the benefit in their name or better put; the grace that worked with them will begin to find expression in your life. God bless you.
